    i have recently switch my job from day shift to night for the past two years. I can honestly say that I have felt more tire and less energetic since switching to the night shift. I feel like my body is breaking down slowly inside of me. I strongly feel this is attributed to me not getting enough sleep, having interupted sleep, and not sleeping around the same time everyday. I have not try to take any medication, over the counter or prescription, to help me sleep better. I have heard that Benadryl maight help initially, but one will quickly develop tolerance and render it ineffective. I have heard from friends who have taken Ambien or Sonata saying that they do not remember the phone call they had made sometime during the night, or are puzzled as to how they find themselves waking up in a strange location like the kitchen or the bathroom. I do agree that the FDA should enforce these drug manufacuturer to label and warn the public of all of the reported adverse effects from these drugs. I would like to add that I am one who is for allowing employee to take naps at the workplace. I think many of the study abroad proved that productivity is higher at those workplaces where their employees are allow to nap on their break. As part of the big public health issue being discussed, I think this should be included.

    My name is Gabriel...I have left information on this page in order to help others understand the side effects and concerns of these sleeping medication aids. These medications, I can give 1st hand experience and knowledge of what occurred when taken these sleeping aids in the past. Now let me give you a flip side to this in a set of different eyes. In my profession as a Police Officer I have seen many things in my time dealing with drugs and the results. Even a few rare cases where I have witnessed or dealt with accidents,fights,or traffic arrest dealing with people under the influence of narcotics including sleeping aids. Yes, now as weird as this might sound some people enjoy taking drugs even if it does not belong to them. The want to feel that rush or high produced by a medication not issued to them. Reason why for those when arrested some state it was a cheap high, belongs to someone else, or not as bad as meth or cocaine. Now their is plenty of charges one can be charged depending on the actions and circumstances of their violation such as Public Intoxication, Intoxication Assault or Intoxication Manslaughter. For that same person does not realize the laws that were broken or the consequences of their actions if they were to kill someone. I will list you Texas Penal Code:
    Under Health & Safety Code 485.031 Possession and use.
    (a) A person commits an offense if the person inhales, ingests, applies, uses, or possesses an abuse able volatile chemical with the intent to inhale, ingest, apply, or use the chemical in a manner:
    (b) It is a defense to prosecution under this section that:
    (1) Contrary to directions for use, cautions, or warnings appearing on a label of a container of the chemical; and
    (2) Designed to:
    (A) Affect the person's central nervous system;
    (B) Create or induce a condition of intoxication, hallucination, or elation; or
    (C) Change, distorts, or disturbs the person's eyesight, thinking process, balance, or coordination.
    (b) An offense under this section is a Class B misdemeanor.

    Penal Code 49.08 Intoxication Manslaughter
    (a) A person commits an offense if the person;
    (1) Operates a motor vehicle in a public place, operates an aircraft, a watercraft, or an amusement ride, or assembles a mobile amusement ride; and
    (2) Is intoxicated and by reason of that intoxication causes the death of another by accident or mistake.
    (b) Except as provided by Section 49.09, an offense under this section is a felony of the second degree.

    My sisters Sandra and Melissa Galvez can assure you of my position in Law Enforcement. Which I hope helps you look at things in a different way. Lt.
